Today I attended the official opening of Gansbaai Community Sports centre in Overstrand. The initiative is essentially the brain child of Barclays Bank who created Spaces for Sport Progamme in the UK and has now extended the concept globally and ABSA has adopted the idea.Local stake holders from both private and public sectors are involved in making this idea a reality. The outcome of this project is to give the community a chance to take part in sports, to enhance their sporting abilities and to encourage the community to mingle with each other.
Various guests who attended the ceremony were Springbok Coach Pie! ter de Villiers, ex Bafana Bafana and Barclays Premier League soccer star Mark Fish and up and coming rugby star Chilliboy Ralepelle as well as few players from Ajax Cape Town to name a few.
The sentiment that echoed when I spoke to them was this is a fantastic initiative and was sure to benefit Overstrand community.
